Single Hung
A single-hung window, also known as a single-sash window, is a type of window with a lower, operable sash and an upper, fixed sash. This means that the bottom part of the window slides up and down, while the top part remains stationary. Single-hung windows provide ventilation through the bottom sash.
Double Hung
A double-hung window, also commonly referred to as a double-sash window, is a type of window that has two operable sashes that slide up and down. There are two main operable parts of a double-hung window — the top sash and the bottom sash.

Picture Window
- A picture window consists of a single pane of glass without any rails to obstruct the view.
- A fixed window is set in the closed position. It is stationary and cannot open (non-operational). Fixed windows often look like picture windows except that they have larger and thicker frames. Their larger and thicker frames allow them to match the sightlines of neighbouring operational windows.
- A combination window is generally made up of a picture window and a functional window, although you can add any number of windows into the combination.
Casement Window
A casement window hinges at the side and opens outward to the left or right. They are also known as crank windows, since they are opened with a handle that cranks the supporting arm of the window outward.
Sliding Window
A sliding window is a window that opens by sliding horizontally along a top and bottom track in the window frame.
